Creating prompts

How to write prompts that produce useful tracking data, character limits, and tips for getting representative AI responses.

Prompts are the questions BrandAxis sends to each AI model on your behalf, on a regular cadence. The quality of your prompts directly determines the quality of your data.

Steps

  1. Open Prompts in the sidebar.
  2. Click Add prompt.
  3. Enter the question exactly as a real customer would type it.
  4. You can press Enter to add additional prompts on a new line.
  5. Select the Country you want the Prompt to track from. City is optional.
  6. Click Create — your prompt will run in ~3-10 minutes and then joins the next tracking cycle.

Writing good prompts

  • Use bottom of funnel, not informational — *“What is generative engine optimization…” rather “What is the best GEO tool for”
  • Frame them as a buyer who doesn’t know the answer — “What’s the best tool for…” rather than “Is BrandAxis a good tool for?”
  • Be specific — vague prompts get vague answers and add noise to your data
  • Keep them short — under 100 characters is usually best
  • Do not add the Brand or Competitor name — This will bias the LLM to respond, generating a false mention.
  • Create question variations — Who is / What is / Which is / List of”
  • Use adjectives - Like “The Best / Top / Fastest / Most Affordable”

Character limit

Prompts can be up to 280 characters. Most useful prompts are well under that.
